I’ve lived in NYC for 3 weeks now…yah that’s a long damn time for a small town gal like me. I’m having a love/hate relationship with this city…mainly hating all the homeless people, guys who don’t hold doors open, slow walkers, lack of a/c, smelly subway, how much walking you actually have to do to get somewhere (I walk 10 miles a day y’all..that’s a lot). I also hate how expensive everything is…like $15 for a meal and $20 for a drink. You can’t even get drunk off at $20 drink. It also baffles me that theres a guy on the street that asks me for money EVERYDAY while I walk to work as he smokes a cigarette. I swear one day I’m going to lose it on him and tell him “If you can afford to smoke a cigarette than you don’t need my money” or something like that. I have this sh*t planned out y’all. Not to mention the hotel prices are outrageous…trying to find a semi decent hotel for Matt and I when he comes to visit and the prices are $300 and up for something just okay. Oh and where I live…don’t even get me started on that!
What I LOVE though (I know it’s shocking I could love something…) is the amount of exploring I get to do and how many endless options of things there are to do in the city. A lot of things are pretty convenient for the most part or so I think they are from where I’m living. Plus, there’s fun things and events going on ALL the time and even though the food is expensive and so are the drinks…there are so many cool restaurants to go to. Next to where I’m working there is a Bite Beauty Bar and you can make your own lipstick! I’m literally doing it next week. Y’all know how much I love my lipstick! AND there’s a Birchbox Store where you can make your own Birchbox…like what!
I have my ups and downs with the city though. I don’t hate it but I don’t love it. I think I just like it and am trying to embrace the opportunity that I was given to come live here for 4 months. But boy do I miss Alabama more than anything in this world and I’m so excited to go back there tonight for a weekend trip. It’s been so weird for me knowing that I’ll never be a college student ever again. It’s sad…people aren’t kidding when they say it goes by quickly! I never thought I’d admit to missing Alabama more than I miss home but I miss Alabama a hell of a lot. People in NYC don’t have manners like they do in Alabama…and on that note I will end my rant!
Hope everyone has a great weekend…oh and ROLL TIDE!
Matt and I escaped for a quick night to his farm and boy did we need it! He cooked steaks and his famous brown rice while I drank wine and baked (burnt) cookies. After that, we watched Maid in Manhattan and No String Attached…I can’t believe I talked Matt into watching BOTH of those movies. It was peaceful and perfect, just what we both needed.
I can’t get over how beautiful the weather is today! Yesterday it was windy and cold but now the sun is out and shining bright. Wishing I had a on a bikini and was laying out by the dock! But I can always count on my jeans and cowboy boots to keep me in my comfort zone!
I don’t get to go on a tropical Spring Break this year with all my friends because I’ll be in NYC doing interviews for my internship this Fall. I’m basically bummed out that I won’t be able to spend it with my friends but I know I’m going to have a blast in NYC (hoping it will be kinda warm). Just because I don’t get to enjoy the warm tropical weather doesn’t mean I can’t obsess over the SB essentials. I do get to go home the weekend after Spring Break so I will get a little sunshine in!
Got Kale? Have you ever heard about massaging kale? Ya, me neither but Fast Foodie knows all about it and I suggest you check it out here. A special shout out to Fitz Pullins of The Inventory Room for these adorable tops! I’ve worn mine so much! I’m always so grateful for the people I meet and friends I make from blogging! I honestly couldn’t imagine not having Fast Foodie by my side…she has been nothing but a great support system for Shotguns & Seashells! Plus, what’s better than having fun taking pictures with your bff?
Fast Foodie, originally started her blog to write about food and has decided to branch out and become a lifestyle blog and feature guest posting! I highly suggest checking it out..she’s got fitness, fashion and entertainment. Basically she’s got it all and I’m so proud of how far she has come in the past year! I guess I should mention that Fast Foodie’s name is Parker…LOL!
Above is the gorgeous Parker of FastFoodie.Us…one of my favorite photos of her!
I’m envisioning this as a fun date night outfit for Valentine’s Day…assuming it will be cold in Alabama and that I’ll be taken on a date. Nothing makes a statement more than a bold lip color and a faux fur jacket!
Let’s face it, we were all sad when the J.Crew camo puffer vest sold out…but then we got excited when J.Crew Factory made one for cheaper! But, of course that sold out in a week! Don’t fret I have finally found a new camo puffer for those of y’all that missed out on this fun trend! 🙂
With 2014 quickly coming to an end I can’t help but smile at such a great year I’ve had with Shotguns & Seashells! I appreciate all of the love and support that all of my readers have given me..without y’all I wouldn’t be able to do it. I can’t wait to see what 2015 has to offer and to watch Shotguns & Seashells grow more!

With fall finally underway, Alabama officially has some cooler weather! To celebrate that still in between weather I went for a cream colored skirt and striped blouse, paired off with my FAVORITE shoes and my Gregory Sylvia hobo tote!
Here’s what is ironic about this post. It had literally just been raining and I finally had time to do a rainy day outfit post. Once I finally got ready and looked out the window- well what would ya know it stopped raining. So, what I hoped would turn into a cute rainy day post turned into a sunny day looking silly wearing rain gear post. I still wanted to take the pictures anyway..I didn’t get dressed up for nothing.
