I’ve lived in NYC for 3 weeks now…yah that’s a long damn time for a small town gal like me. I’m having a love/hate relationship with this city…mainly hating all the homeless people, guys who don’t hold doors open, slow walkers, lack of a/c, smelly subway, how much walking you actually have to do to get somewhere (I walk 10 miles a day y’all..that’s a lot). I also hate how expensive everything is…like $15 for a meal and $20 for a drink. You can’t even get drunk off at $20 drink. It also baffles me that theres a guy on the street that asks me for money EVERYDAY while I walk to work as he smokes a cigarette. I swear one day I’m going to lose it on him and tell him “If you can afford to smoke a cigarette than you don’t need my money” or something like that. I have this sh*t planned out y’all. Not to mention the hotel prices are outrageous…trying to find a semi decent hotel for Matt and I when he comes to visit and the prices are $300 and up for something just okay. Oh and where I live…don’t even get me started on that!

What I LOVE though (I know it’s shocking I could love something…) is the amount of exploring I get to do and how many endless options of things there are to do in the city. A lot of things are pretty convenient for the most part or so I think they are from where I’m living. Plus, there’s fun things and events going on ALL the time and even though the food is expensive and so are the drinks…there are so many cool restaurants to go to. Next to where I’m working there is a Bite Beauty Bar and you can make your own lipstick! I’m literally doing it next week. Y’all know how much I love my lipstick! AND there’s a Birchbox Store where you can make your own Birchbox…like what!

I have my ups and downs with the city though. I don’t hate it but I don’t love it. I think I just like it and am trying to embrace the opportunity that I was given to come live here for 4 months. But boy do I miss Alabama more than anything in this world and I’m so excited to go back there tonight for a weekend trip. It’s been so weird for me knowing that I’ll never be a college student ever again. It’s sad…people aren’t kidding when they say it goes by quickly! I never thought I’d admit to missing Alabama more than I miss home but I miss Alabama a hell of a lot. People in NYC don’t have manners like they do in Alabama…and on that note I will end my rant!

Hope everyone has a great weekend…oh and ROLL TIDE!

xx,

ss

  1. As an Alabama girl who also lived in NYC for a short time (internship in college) here is a bit of advice – if you want to go out for drinks go to the east village. Drinks are SO much cheaper there! Also, I don’t know if you have game day plans tomorrow, but if not you should definitely go to Ainsworth in Chelsea to watch the game. It’s the Bama Alumni bar, and it’s SO fun on game day! It almost feels like you are back home! I was shocked the first time I went there. I had no idea there were so many Bama fans in NYC! If you ever have any questions about NYC living or need suggestions on things to do, just shoot me an email. Have so much fun! I learned so much in my short time living there. It was an experience that I will truly never forget!
