Yes, I have been MIA lately but things got hectic here in NYC. From work to my parents visiting to more work with a boutique at home that I work at and then me getting sick and to top it off…homework. I needed a break to have some time with myself and do a little online shopping and reading my book. You know..things that soothe a girl. While all my friends are Netflix lovers I’m old school and stay up until 2am reading books…any suggestions let me hear them!
New York is starting to cool down and I mean seriously cool down. I don’t think I’ve ever had to wear a jacket until like November. So putting one on in the middle of September is starting to send me into a state of panic to start shopping for sweaters! I’ve been hitting up places like Forever21 and Zara for cheap sweaters because I know I’ll only wear them a few times because in FL you don’t need sweaters. I’ve also been loving my Tibi off the shoulder top now that it has started to cool off. If you’re like me and you get hot easily and sweat outside then you’ll know what I mean what I say I can’t wear anything with sleeves. I can wear jeans all day long though and I think thats because I’m used to it from when I rode horses but sleeves…oh my god I can’t wait to get into air conditioning. This tops been a great transitional piece for me lately and it’s going to be a great staple in my wardrobe. I just went to market last weekend and if you saw any of the Spring Runway shows from NYFW you’ll know that the off the shoulder top is making a huge statement this spring so you better start jumping on the trend before they are all sold out!
Wearing white after labor day?! Whatever…it’s still 80 degrees out and I know I’m in the fashion capital of the world where you MUST follow the trend but really…it’s 80 degrees in NYC I’m not going to start wearing heavy sweaters. Plus, I grew up in Florida where it’s practically summer all year long so dressing like a summery person is basically instinctual to me…so until it starts to hit below 70 degrees I’m going to keep on wearing my whites!
I don’t think I know a single person who doesn’t like candles. They are one of my favorite things to have with me when I’m having me time and relaxing. Koukla’s Korner LLC makes homemade soy wax candles in a MASON JAR…so cute and southern (except for these little minis). I was lucky enough to receive their entire new fall collection to test (aka smell and light) and a personal pick! I chose the Green Tea + Lemongrass scent since lemongrass is one of my favorite scents! Also, Alexis the creator of Koukla’s Korner LLC is a horse gal like me!!! She lives on a horse farm…literally my dream. Alexis was inspired by the simplicity of growing up on the farm and bonding with her horses.
In the fall collection there was a Pumpkin Soufflé, Pumpkin Pie, Cinnamon Stick and Apple Harvest. I’d say that Apple Harvest was my all time favorite but I could only keep it lit for so long. As much as I LOVE candles it seems I just can’t do these types of scents lit for a long time because I start to get a headache. I guess my candle type is a much more fruitier and relaxing hence why I also got the Green Tea + Lemongrass candle because it smells DIVINE! But don’t get me wrong now…the entire fall collection is absolutely incredible. The scents are very strong and rich but I personally just can’t do them. I try and I try every fall to give these yummy scents a shot and I just can’t seem to burn down and entire candle without getting a headache. Now don’t get me wrong because I love a good Pumpkin Pie in the fall too!
So if you get headaches from these types of candles I suggest you try out the Green Tea + Lemongrass! On my list next to try is the Summer Breeze (even though summer is over) and Clean Cotton!
When I spot a comfy dress I get it because to be honest you really can’t have too many comfortable dresses. I’m a sucker for a comfy flowy dress..I truly am. And when I saw this dress…I tried it on and loved it. But I told myself I didn’t need it or to spend more money like a mature adult would do. Yet, a week letter I was back in the store buying it because I knew I HAD to have it…because you can’t pass on a comfy dress ever….
Moral of this post…if you see a comfy dress..BUY IT before some else does!
I’ve lived in NYC for 3 weeks now…yah that’s a long damn time for a small town gal like me. I’m having a love/hate relationship with this city…mainly hating all the homeless people, guys who don’t hold doors open, slow walkers, lack of a/c, smelly subway, how much walking you actually have to do to get somewhere (I walk 10 miles a day y’all..that’s a lot). I also hate how expensive everything is…like $15 for a meal and $20 for a drink. You can’t even get drunk off at $20 drink. It also baffles me that theres a guy on the street that asks me for money EVERYDAY while I walk to work as he smokes a cigarette. I swear one day I’m going to lose it on him and tell him “If you can afford to smoke a cigarette than you don’t need my money” or something like that. I have this sh*t planned out y’all. Not to mention the hotel prices are outrageous…trying to find a semi decent hotel for Matt and I when he comes to visit and the prices are $300 and up for something just okay. Oh and where I live…don’t even get me started on that!
What I LOVE though (I know it’s shocking I could love something…) is the amount of exploring I get to do and how many endless options of things there are to do in the city. A lot of things are pretty convenient for the most part or so I think they are from where I’m living. Plus, there’s fun things and events going on ALL the time and even though the food is expensive and so are the drinks…there are so many cool restaurants to go to. Next to where I’m working there is a Bite Beauty Bar and you can make your own lipstick! I’m literally doing it next week. Y’all know how much I love my lipstick! AND there’s a Birchbox Store where you can make your own Birchbox…like what!
I have my ups and downs with the city though. I don’t hate it but I don’t love it. I think I just like it and am trying to embrace the opportunity that I was given to come live here for 4 months. But boy do I miss Alabama more than anything in this world and I’m so excited to go back there tonight for a weekend trip. It’s been so weird for me knowing that I’ll never be a college student ever again. It’s sad…people aren’t kidding when they say it goes by quickly! I never thought I’d admit to missing Alabama more than I miss home but I miss Alabama a hell of a lot. People in NYC don’t have manners like they do in Alabama…and on that note I will end my rant!
Hope everyone has a great weekend…oh and ROLL TIDE!
Well well well…We meet again Macaron Cafe! I got to try out the Macaron Cafe’s classic flavors this weekend and I was in macaroon heaven! The flavors were peanut butter + jelly, chocolate raspberry, vanilla, dark chocolate, coconut, and raspberry. Peanut butter + jelly and dark chocolate were naturally my all time favorites…I think I could eat them for the rest of my life and die happy.
To check my other post with them click here..and yes I know I said I’m going to visit them now that I’m in NYC and I’ve been here for 2 weeks but boy was I not expecting to be SO busy where I can barely make time for myself let alone blog. So give me a few weeks and I’ll be visit one of their beautiful NYC stores! Until then, snack on!
